8" Handmade Fishbone Tibetan Powerful Goddess Green Tara on lotus Statue- Yellow
Tara, meaning “star,” is a female Bodhisattva (or female Buddha, Savior, and Meditational Deity). Tara is a “Holy Mother.” There are 21 forms or manifestations of Taras, each of which is represented by a different color. Green and White Tara are widely used in Tibetan Buddhism. The following depict and distinguish the meanings of each.
· Green Tara- A fierce Tara known as the Buddha of Enlightened Activity offers help and protection against all unfortunate circumstances. She is prayed to in order to help the supplicant to overcome difficult situations, dangers, fears and anxieties.
Green Tara is usually portrayed as being seated on a lotus blossom, with her left leg tucked under, which symbolizes wisdom and art. Her right leg is extended off of her main Lotus throne, touching a small lotus. This posture shows that she is a Goddess of Action. Her fingers gesture intended to show three jeweled Mudra or Vitarka Mudra: Shangha, Dharma and Buddha, meaning “giving refuge.”
Her mantra (song or hymn) is called OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SVAHA, meaning enlightenment and liberation. Anyone can recite the prayers of Tara and the expectation is that in so doing it will bring great benefits to the supplicant.
Virtually every Tibetan monastery performs Green Tara Puja prayer rituals every morning. The fact that this prayer is so ancient and has been so popular and widely practiced over the ages contributes to its great power and effectiveness.
